Kick off your December with the spectacular and dynamic Zoominescence light festival. Imagine strolling through 18 hectares of pristine River Valley lit in a kaleidoscope of colours. Now in its eighth year, Zoominescence offers the rare opportunity to experience our zoo family – including snow leopards, camels, seals, and Arctic wolves – under moonlight and the entrancing glow of light installations.

This year’s theme is “60 Years of Education, Conservation and Getting Closer.

Highlights Include

  • 10 local art installations – each chosen artist is awarded $3,500 to create a radiant masterpiece
  • More than 30 major light displays throughout the zoo grounds including a light tunnel and chasing trees
  • 30-foot ice slide
  • Giant igloo to explore
  • Skating rink, music, bonfire, and hot chocolate
  • Live performers including fire dancers, musicians, and actors
  • Santa’s Workshop where your family can build enrichments to surprise the animals Christmas morning
  • Animals talks and close-up animal encounters
  • Photos with Santa
  • 40acres and Sandwich & Sons restaurants are open

Zoominescence, hosted by the Valley Zoo Development Society, hires local suppliers, light artists, and performers ensuring that all of the proceeds stay in your community and support your Edmonton Valley Zoo.

Money raised through ticket sales help to enhance animal habitats, purchase enrichments to stimulate our residents, and fund the construction of Nature’s Wild Backyard. Your attendance provides valuable support while you enjoy a magical evening with our zoo residents and take in the dazzling light show along with live entertainment, Santa’s workshop, skating, and a perhaps even, a slippery trip down the ice slide. You may need to come back a second night to do it all! To learn more about the Valley Zoo Development Society and upcoming events visit Building Our Zoo.
