One of Edmonton’s favourite events saw sold out crowds this summer enjoy three boozy nights of beverages, games and animal visits. Hosted by The Ark Project, a division of the Valley Zoo Development Society, Zoobrew visitors were treated to activities such as live singers and musicians, plinko games with amusing prizes, abundant drinks and delicious food trucks and, most importantly, plenty of time to explore the grounds and appreciate the Edmonton Valley Zoo’s hundreds of animals.
While many funds were raised in support of the zoo’s community, Zoobrew also provided an eclectic selection of breweries and distilleries the opportunity to showcase their finest craft beers, wines and spirits. The grounds were lined with food and beverage stops, offering guests plenty of choice to sample all night long. Humorous signs warning of anacondas lurking in ponds and tigers projectile urinating lined the grass, eliciting laughter while ensuring visitors remained respectful of the animal exhibits without compromising their safety. There was no doubt of the crowd’s enthusiasm; guests sampled beverages while acoustic covers echoed throughout the park, a wholesome display of community and mutual passion for animals. As the nights progressed, the scene began to settle; the crowds quietened and slowly dispersed, ready to rest from the ample excitement. It didn’t take long for the animals to follow suit, retreating to their enclosures for some much deserved relaxation.
Once again Zoobrew was a great success, proving itself to be the perfect way for friends and family to spend a summer night while contributing to a meaningful cause. Special thanks go to the team of workers and volunteers responsible for the smooth operation of Zoobrew. It was remarkable to witness the zoo’s quick transition from a typical summer family environment to an all-adult evening spectacle. The Ark Project and Valley Zoo Development Society’s commitment to animal welfare and conservation was evident as every team member worked seamlessly to bring the vision of Zoobrew to life. The shared community of animal lovers demonstrates the immense effort that is invested in the zoo, and how individuals can connect through a shared love of animals to fulfil conservation goals.
The proceeds from Zoobrew are invaluable to the Edmonton Valley Zoo and its residents. The proceeds from this year’s event will go toward our new Arctic Wolf Habitat, expected to be complete later this year. If you enjoy mingling with fellow animal lovers or just want to enjoy a vibrant adult-only ambience, make sure to watch for next year’s Zoobrew dates. Cheers to conservation!
