Connecting with Nature through LEGO®

This summer, an incredible, fun, and  artistic exhibit will be a part of the Edmonton Valley Zoo and you’re invited!  Don’t miss Nature Connects®, presented by Canadian Tire. Nature Connects is a traveling exhibit featuring artist Sean Kenney’s sculptures made entirely from LEGO® bricks.

This award-winning exhibition of art displays enormous, ambitious, gravity-defying, and astoundingly precise structures that will delight the whole family. At times whimsical, gripping, and awe-inspiring, the exhibition is sure to be an unforgettable experience.

The exhibit opened earlier this month and is already a hit with zoo guests and staff alike. Running through the Labour Day long weekend, 13 sculptures have been placed throughout the zoo to help bring a new imaginative and interesting view of animals and nature. Some of these sculptures are made with over 88,000 LEGO bricks! They all feature signage promoting the conservation efforts for these animals and their natural habitats, as well as information about the number of bricks used and the hours needed to produce the sculptures.

From the proud power of a mother polar bear to the quiet serenity of a coral reef; from the delicate suspension of a hummingbird on the edge of a flower to the ferocity of a snow leopard on the hunt— Kenney’s art sparks a joyful sense of wonder in those both young and young-at-heart. Using the beloved LEGO bricks as a medium, Nature Connects poses the question: just as LEGO bricks interconnect, how is our natural world interconnected?

At times whimsical, gripping, and awe-inspiring, the exhibition is sure to inspire budding artists, ecologists, and builders to dream big!

Enjoy the Edmonton Valley Zoo in a new way this summer!
